• Back Garden Project – May 2023 update

The Back Garden project, situated at the old skate park in Back Lane, next to the village hall is a community garden for all to enjoy. This week the team planted out new plant and flower additions, plus, work on the trellis commenced. Drop in, take a seat and marvel at the hard work put in by the volunteers. There’s much more to come including a seating area under the pergola. Meanwhile, in the wild strips around the field, orange tip butterflies have been egg-laying on garlic mustard.

    *UPDATE* HETHERSETT PAVILION BUILDING PROJECT

Please see the latest update from the Site Manager:

    – Works to footpath alongside the bund have now been postponed until late Jan/Feb (to coincide with car park extension works) due to boggy ground conditions and risk of abortive work with stoning of new path becoming contaminated with mud before the tarmac capping is laid.
    – The external brickwork and blockwork is now up to roof plate level at changing room end.
    – The external blockwork to hall end in progress up to roof plate height. Completion of all brickwork and blockwork still expected end of this week, subject to weather
    – The Internal scaffolding to hall end being erected
    – Internal blockwork being taken up to ceiling height this week with completion of changing room end so roof truss works can commence
    – Roof trusses being moved around the site with roof truss installation now to commence Monday next week
    – Lifting of roof trusses into position expected before Christmas but now unlikely that felt and battens will all be on before Christmas
    – More days lost due to frequent rain showers
    – Ovamill to return this week to extend water pipe to back of kerb – This will involve digging through the hedge
Ovamill to dig trial hole approx halfway along the pipe installed to demonstrate this is at the correct depth
*The Anglian Water Road closure is booked for 12th to 15th December (tbc subject to the above works)*

  • The Back Garden Update – 05/11/22

It’s all happening at the Back Garden! We had a good session last Saturday, a good number of volunteers turning up and the rain held off which was good! The front border has been planted up with lavenders, alchemilla mollis and verbena plants as well as allium and daffodil bulbs. The compost bins from the former Woodside School have also been reconstructed and just need a wipe down!
Interestingly, several new people to the village have signed up as volunteers in recent weeks, which is lovely. We welcomed one new family this weekend…they planted 100 English bluebells under the trees at the Village Hall field on Saturday, having also helped move items at the former Woodside school on the Friday.
The volunteers weren’t able to move the longer pergola items from Woodside on Friday as the truck wasn’t big enough but Steve Clarke from NCC has kindly arranged for a larger lorry to be available on Tues am so we will be back there to finish off! Thank you to our amazing volunteers!
  • Thank you to our amazing Back Garden volunteers!

Thanks to our amazing team of Back Garden volunteers, we had a successful work session at the former Woodside School site last Saturday 29th October. So far we’ve been able to repurpose green compost bins, the pergola and planters. The next stage is to finish the work and get the component parts of the pergola ready for transporting over to the community garden site, thanks to Norfolk County Council.
